Wood Essence Distributing stocks the famous Bartley Gel Stains, Gel Varnish and Wood Grain Fillers for Canadian Woodworkers.
These products were originally available to purchasers of Bartley's wood kits, however the finishing products enjoyed such success that they are now available to other consumers. They are particularly easy to use and they work very well to control blotching on difficult woods such as cherry, birch and pine.
Beautiful tones can be achieved by staining with one color, allowing it to dry for six hours, and then overstaining with a different color. For example, using Brown or Dark Brown Mahogany for thc first coat followed by Pennsylvania Cherry will result in reddish brown tones. Pennsylvania Cherry overstained with Jet Mahogany will create a rich Mahogany color.
Because Gel Stains are semi—transparent, the overstaining creates a different look than had the same colors been mixed in a can and then applied. Gel stains also produce fantastic results when used in combination with ColorFX Dye Stains. Very easy to produce, deep, even tones are generated when dying the wood surface and then follow with an application of a matching (even contrasting) gel stain. A simple "Espresso" finish is developed by using the ColorFX Vandyke Brown dye, followed by Bartley's Espresso Gel stain. |
